A Fighter’s Focus

One of my favorite things about martial arts is that there is always more to learn. It is both humbling and exciting to be a lifelong student of Muay Thai. As a fighter, there is always something new to focus on or develop. Usually, the first place I start is my last fight performance. I’ll analyze what went well and what didn't. What went wrong, especially after a fight, is some of the most valuable information available to a fighter. Even if I have not had a competition recently, I can apply the same practice to my sparring.

People have the 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM grind mentality all wrong.  It's all about how you're spending the 5:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM.  Dedicating time during the day can be tough with all the usual distractions. 

So much of martial arts centers around community. Although we compete individually, we are nothing without our coaches, pad holders and sparring partners. Quarantine left many of us, myself included, clueless as to how to adapt our training.

Staying Motivated Without the Gym

Not having access to a gym or my coach definitely threw me initially. I thrive when I have a structure or framework to work with, but I must admit, I struggle without it. My schedule helps to stay accountable to myself, my work and my training. I was lost without it.
